Binance and Bybit maintenance-margin bracket reference
Binance and Bybit assign MMR from position notional, not your selected leverage: for BTC up to $300,000, Binance uses 0.4% MMR while Bybit uses 0.33%.
how it's computed
crossing a bracket can pull liq toward entry even when leverage is unchanged. the tables below were verified against venue data on 2026-09-19.

the short version
- look up MMR by notional, not leverage: a $10,000 Binance BTC position stays at 0.4% whether you run 5x, 20x or 100x.
- recheck the liq whenever notional crosses a ceiling — $300,000 for BTC or ETH, $50,000 for SOL — even if you never touch leverage.
- above the fifth listed ceiling — $70,000,000 for Binance BTC, $3,800,000 for Bybit BTC — the liq estimate can sit too far from entry; check the live bracket.
what determines your maintenance-margin rate?
your notional, symbol and venue pick the MMR, not leverage — and notional grows as a winning trade moves your way.

your maintenance-margin rate is selected by position notional, symbol and venue. leverage does not directly select the bracket. it controls initial margin and must remain within the bracket’s maximum, but a BTC position with $10,000 notional uses the same first-bracket MMR whether it is running at 5x, 20x or 100x, provided that leverage is permitted for that bracket.
notional is the position’s contract exposure, not the margin posted against it. if the mark moves in your favor while contract quantity stays unchanged, notional can rise enough to cross a bracket ceiling. the venue can then apply a higher MMR and lower maximum leverage. that MMR change moves an isolated long liq upward and an isolated short liq downward, pulling either estimate toward entry.
the tables here cover USDT-M isolated margin for BTC, ETH and SOL. every liquidation figure remains an estimate — exchanges compute exact liq from live margin; always double-check on your venue. cross margin, unrealised PnL on other positions, and fee or funding accruals since entry are not represented by the isolated approximation used in the worked calculations.
what are the Binance maintenance-margin tiers for BTC, ETH and SOL?
Binance BTC uses 0.4% MMR up to $300,000, then 0.5% to $800,000; SOL starts tighter, at 0.5% up to just $50,000.

Binance uses separate notional ladders by symbol. BTC and ETH share the same first 4 ceilings and rates, while their fifth ceilings differ: BTC extends to $70,000,000 and ETH to $50,000,000 at 2% MMR. SOL starts at 0.5% MMR up to $50,000 and reaches 2.5% by its fifth listed bracket.
the maximum-leverage column is a bracket constraint, not the input that chooses MMR. for example, BTC notional up to $300,000 carries 0.4% MMR and permits up to 150x. once BTC notional exceeds $300,000 and remains within $800,000, MMR becomes 0.5% and maximum leverage becomes 100x, regardless of the leverage that originally opened the position.
for SOL, the ladder tightens sooner in dollar terms. its first ceiling is $50,000 at 0.5% MMR and 100x maximum leverage. the next ceiling is $400,000 at 0.65% and 75x, while the fifth listed bracket ends at $8,000,000 with 2.5% MMR and 20x maximum leverage.

what are the Bybit risk limits for BTC, ETH and SOL?
Bybit BTC starts lower, 0.33% to $300,000, then 0.5% all the way to $2,000,000 — a wider second bracket than Binance’s.

Bybit’s risk-limit endpoint also maps notional to MMR and maximum leverage, but its ceilings differ from Binance. BTC and ETH begin with 0.33% MMR up to $300,000 and 150x maximum leverage. their second brackets use 0.5% MMR and 100x, ending at $2,000,000 for BTC and $900,000 for ETH.
the later Bybit BTC brackets are narrower: $2,600,000 at 0.56% MMR and 90x, $3,200,000 at 0.63% and 80x, then $3,800,000 at 0.67% and 75x. ETH follows the same sequence of rates and leverage caps, but its corresponding ceilings are $1,200,000, $1,500,000 and $1,800,000.
Bybit SOL begins identically to Binance SOL at $50,000, 0.5% MMR and 100x maximum leverage. the ladders split after that point. Bybit’s next listed SOL ceilings are $100,000, $250,000, $400,000 and $550,000, with MMR rising from 0.56% through 0.71% as maximum leverage falls from 90x to 70x.

can a winning position move into a worse bracket?
yes: a long that rallies past $300,000 notional at 20x sees its Binance liq move $97.40 toward entry, Bybit’s $165.58.

yes. contract quantity can stay fixed while a favorable mark move increases the position’s notional. if that notional crosses a risk-limit ceiling, the applicable MMR can rise even though you did not change leverage or add contracts. the bracket shift therefore consumes part of the liq distance created by the favorable move; it does not require a leverage-slider change.
consider isolated BTC entered at $97,400 with 20x leverage. on Binance, notional up to $300,000 uses 0.4% MMR, producing a $92,919.60 long-liq estimate. above $300,000 and up to $800,000, the 0.5% MMR gives $93,017.00. the estimate moves $97.40 toward entry because $97,400 × (0.5% − 0.4%) = $97.40.
the same threshold produces a larger shift from Bybit’s first bracket. up to $300,000, 0.33% MMR gives a $92,851.42 long-liq estimate. above that ceiling and through $2,000,000, 0.5% gives $93,017.00. the $165.58 movement toward entry is $97,400 × (0.5% − 0.33%). shorts move toward entry by the same dollar amount under this approximation.

how does MMR change the liquidation calculation?
resolve the bracket before the formula: at 20x and 0.4% MMR the liq of a $97,400 BTC long is $92,919.60, 4.6% away.
the isolated USDT-M approximation for a long is liq = entry × (1 − 1/leverage + MMR). for a short it is liq = entry × (1 + 1/leverage − MMR). a higher MMR raises the long result and lowers the short result. both changes narrow the distance from entry, which is why resolving the correct notional bracket must happen before calculating liq.
at a $97,400 BTC entry, $10,000 notional and 20x, Binance applies 0.4% MMR. the long estimate is $97,400 × (1 − 1/20 + 0.004) = $92,919.60. the short estimate is $97,400 × (1 + 1/20 − 0.004) = $101,880.40. both sit 4.6%, or $4,480.40, from entry under the approximation.
symbol-specific MMR changes the result even when notional and leverage match. with SOL entered at $214, $10,000 notional and 20x, both venue tables apply 0.5% MMR. the estimated long liq is $204.37 and the short liq is $223.63, leaving $9.63 or 4.5% of room. exact live-margin output can differ after funding, fees or other account-level adjustments.
where does this bracket reference stop being exact?
these rows were checked on 2026-09-19 and stop at five brackets; past $3,800,000 on Bybit BTC, check the live table.

the reference prints only the first 5 brackets for each symbol. above the last listed ceiling, the calculator falls back to the fifth listed MMR. because later venue brackets can carry higher maintenance rates, that fallback slightly underestimates MMR and can place the estimated liq farther from entry than the venue’s live calculation for a very large position.
the coverage boundary differs sharply by venue and symbol. Binance’s fifth listed ceilings are $70,000,000 for BTC, $50,000,000 for ETH and $8,000,000 for SOL. Bybit’s are $3,800,000 for BTC, $1,800,000 for ETH and $550,000 for SOL. notionals above those values require the venue’s current higher-bracket data rather than treating the fifth rate as final.
brackets can also change at the venue level after publication. these rows were checked against live exchange data on 2026-09-19: Binance through the bracket API behind its official leverage-margin page, and Bybit through its public v5 market risk-limit endpoint. the verification date is part of the reference because an undated MMR table is not sufficient input for a liq calculation.
what should be checked before using a tier in a calculator?
work from notional, not posted margin: find the first ceiling that contains it, and take MMR and max leverage from that row.

a usable bracket lookup starts with venue, symbol, margin mode and current notional. entry and leverage are not enough because the same leverage can sit inside several MMR tiers. for isolated calculations, select the first ceiling that contains the position’s notional, then carry that bracket’s MMR into the long or short formula.
the resulting number remains an estimate rather than an exchange settlement value. live margin can reflect funding accruals, fees and venue-side adjustments absent from the approximation. conditional-order trigger type is selectable and varies by product and interface, so it must be checked on the account rather than assumed from the liq calculation.
- identify Binance or Bybit and the exact BTC, ETH or SOL contract before reading the ladder.
- calculate position notional before selecting MMR; do not use posted margin as the bracket input.
- take the MMR and maximum leverage from the same row rather than mixing adjacent brackets.
- recalculate after notional crosses $300,000 for BTC or ETH, or $50,000 for SOL in the first listed ladders.
- treat output above the fifth listed ceiling as understated and double-check the live venue bracket.
what this page adds that the others don't
show all 6
- Binance BTC uses 0.4% MMR through $300,000, while Bybit BTC uses 0.33% through the same ceiling.
- a 20x BTC long entered at $97,400 moves from $92,919.60 to $93,017.00 estimated liq when Binance MMR rises from 0.4% to 0.5%.
- the equivalent Bybit BTC bracket change moves estimated liq by $165.58 because MMR rises from 0.33% to 0.5%.
- Binance SOL reaches 2.5% MMR at its $8,000,000 fifth ceiling, while Bybit SOL reaches 0.71% at $550,000.
- BTC and ETH share Binance’s first 4 bracket ceilings, but their fifth ceilings split at $70,000,000 and $50,000,000.
- the table’s fifth-bracket fallback slightly understates MMR above the listed coverage ceiling, so very large-position liq estimates can sit too far from entry.
faq
does leverage choose my maintenance-margin tier?
no. position notional, symbol and venue choose the MMR bracket. leverage sets initial-margin requirements and must fit under that bracket’s maximum leverage. a $10,000 Binance BTC position remains in the 0.4% first bracket at 5x, 20x or 100x because its notional stays below the $300,000 ceiling.
why did my liquidation price move when I did not change leverage?
a notional bracket may have changed. if contract quantity remained fixed while the mark increased, position notional could cross a ceiling and trigger a higher MMR. funding, fees and other live-margin adjustments can also move the venue’s exact liq. the calculator result is an isolated estimate, not a substitute for the account’s live value.
are Binance maintenance tiers the same as Bybit risk limits?
no. the mechanism is comparable, but the rates and ceilings differ. BTC up to $300,000 uses 0.4% MMR on Binance and 0.33% on Bybit. their next BTC ceilings are also different: $800,000 on Binance and $2,000,000 on Bybit, though both corresponding brackets use 0.5% MMR.
what happens above the fifth bracket shown here?
the reference calculator falls back to the fifth listed MMR, which slightly understates the rate for larger notionals. the listed coverage ends at different ceilings, including $70,000,000 for Binance BTC and $3,800,000 for Bybit BTC. positions above the applicable ceiling need the venue’s current live bracket data.
do long and short positions use different maintenance tiers?
no. the bracket lookup is based on venue, symbol and notional rather than directional side. side changes how MMR enters the approximation: it raises a long liq and lowers a short liq. at the same entry and leverage, a higher MMR therefore pulls both estimates toward entry from opposite directions.
