funding cost & liq alert — every coin, every venue
holding a $100,000 BTC long on bybit at 0.01% per 8h costs about $30.00 a day in funding — $210 a week.
how it's computed
it's rent, not a fee: longs and shorts settle rate × notional between them every 8 hours on binance, bybit and okx, every hour on hyperliquid.
the short version
- it's charged on notional, so leverage doesn't change the bill: at 20x a day of funding takes 0.60% of the $5,000 posted — every day.
- it's a transfer, not a fee: the short on the other side of that position collects the same $210.
- on isolated margin it comes out of your room: at 20x a BNB long's room covers about 73 days of funding on binance, 0 on hyperliquid — price the hold before you open it.

what you're actually paying for
$100,000 of BTC long at 0.01% per 8h: $30.00 a day, $210 a week. positive rate means longs pay.

a perp has no expiry, so funding is what drags it back to spot: perp above the index, longs pay shorts; below it, shorts pay longs. the exchange keeps none of it — it's a transfer, which is why it can also pay you.
cost = notional × rate × intervals held. binance, bybit and okx settle every 8 hours (00:00, 08:00, 16:00 utc); hyperliquid settles every hour. you pay only if you hold through the stamp, so entering two minutes before one costs a full interval.
it's charged on notional, so it looks small next to margin until you divide: the example's $30.00 a day is 0.60% of the $5,000 posted at 20x, every day.
the rate is a positioning readout
a stretched rate means a crowded side. the side collecting it still needs a stop.

0.01% per 8h is where a quiet perp sits; the coin decides the rest. this site's example rates run 0.01% per 8h on BTC to 0.03% on SOL — 3× the rent for the same exposure, before either moves.
past 0.05–0.10% per 8h the rate stops being a cost and becomes a crowd reading: one side pays to stay on, the other is paid to absorb it. the funding column in the markets table above is the live version, per coin and venue.
the trap on the collecting side: the rent is small and the move isn't. 0.10% per 8h is 0.3% a day against a short that can lose 10% in an afternoon. collect funding with a stop and an alarm.
what the rent does to your liquidation price
a $100,000 BNB long at 20x: funding alone reaches the liq in about 73 days on binance, 0 on hyperliquid.

maintenance brackets read from www.binance.com and api.bybit.com and www.okx.com and api.hyperliquid.xyz, verified 2026-09-23; the rate column is this site's example rate per coin, not a live quote — the markets table above carries the live one for every venue.

on isolated margin every payment comes out of the position's own margin, so funding moves the line: the buffer to your liq thins every settlement, with no candle to blame.
the table prices that at 20x on $100,000, each coin at its example rate. on BNB at 0.02% per 8h the room lasts about 73 days on binance and 0 on hyperliquid — the harsher bracket also shortens the clock. the days hold at any size: room and rent both scale with notional.
so funding rarely liquidates a sanely leveraged position — the wick does. what funding does is shorten the clock, fastest on the coins whose swings already forced the wider stop.
what the funding number can't tell you
the rate is a snapshot quoted per interval, not per year. check which you're reading, and re-check it before each stamp.
the rate you type is a snapshot. venues recompute it continuously and fix it at the stamp, so what prints can be a multiple of what showed an hour earlier — usually when it matters most.
it's quoted per interval, not per year: 0.05% per 8h is 0.15% a day, a little over 50% annualised. type an annualised rate into a per-interval field and you overstate the cost about a thousand times.
and it's not a forecast: crowded markets stay crowded for weeks. multiply before you enter, and keep the liq distance in view while you hold — that's the number that ends the trade.
faq
i'm in and out the same day — does funding matter at all?
only if you hold through a stamp, and then it's one interval rather than a day: $1.00 on a $10,000 position at 0.01% per 8h, an eighth of that on an hourly clock. check the countdown, not the rate — entering ninety seconds before a stamp buys a full interval of rent.
do the venues charge different funding for the same coin?
yes. each venue computes its own rate from its own index and premium, so the same coin can be 0.01% on one and 0.04% on another, and in a dislocation they can sit on opposite sides of zero. the clock differs too: binance, bybit and okx settle every 8 hours, hyperliquid hourly. for a multi-day hold, check before you pick where to open.
where do i get the rate to type in?
the funding column in the markets table on this page, per coin and per venue, refreshed live where the api answers; the per-coin pages prefill it too. the worked examples use typical rates, deliberately not live ones — replace them with what your venue quotes when you price a real hold.
is a perp the right instrument if i want to hold for a month?
price it first: thirty days at 0.01% per 8h is about 0.9% of notional, and at the 0.03% per 8h the dearest coin here runs it's nearer 2.7% — plus a liquidation price spot doesn't have. perps are built for leverage and for shorting; if you want neither, the rent buys you nothing.
does the alarm keep running when i close the page?
yes — the watching happens on our side, not in your tab. once armed it stays armed with the browser closed, the phone asleep and the laptop shut; the message lands on telegram, as a web push, or by email.
does this include trading fees?
no. funding is a transfer between traders, recurring on the settlement clock while you hold; fees go to the venue, once in and once out, roughly a tenth of a percent round trip. a day trade is mostly fees, a two-week hold is mostly funding, and the crossover is about three days.
